The Kyrgyz State Conservatory was established by the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic on July 23, 1993. The Conservatory was the first in the country to receive the highest status, "National," in 1998. The Conservatory is a powerful training ground for professionals, the only professional music university in the republic with significant creative potential.
The initiator and first rector of the KSC was the renowned composer, People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, and laureate of the Toktogul State Prize, Professor M. Begaliev.
The Conservatory employs outstanding musicians and teachers of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as young professionals.
The Conservatory has developed a system of musical methodology that seamlessly combines the principles of folk pedagogy and the global traditions of academic education. The Conservatory trains highly qualified professionals in the fields of piano, solo academic and traditional singing, concert performance on Kyrgyz folk and symphonic instruments, pop music, choral and opera-symphony conducting, composition, musicology, and choreography.
Over the past 30 years, the university has trained approximately 3,000 highly qualified professionals. Over 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students have won international competitions, and over 100 students have received scholarships from the Presidential Programs "Prelude" and "Altyn-Shaty." KNC graduates work in all musical ensembles and educational institutions across the country, including the A. Maldybaev Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, the Toktogul Kyrgyz National Philharmonic, the Public Television and Radio Broadcasting Company of the Kyrgyz Republic, and other media outlets, as well as abroad.
The Conservatory's structure includes the Rector's Office, the Academic Council, the Academic Department, the Dean's Office, the Departments, the Educational and Methodological Association, an opera and choral studio, the State Language Center, the International Department, a library with a reading room, a music library, a recording studio, the KNK Museum, a computer lab, a sports and fitness center, as well as a two-year preparatory department, a two-year assistantship-internship program, a correspondence department, and a faculty for advanced training for teachers of music schools and colleges of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The Conservatory's faculty consists of leading musicians and musical figures of the country—professors, associate professors, doctors and candidates of science, graduates of leading conservatories in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kyiv, Tashkent, Almaty, and Bishkek. Among them are People's Artists of the USSR and the Kyrgyz Republic, laureates of the USSR State Prize, the Toktogul State Prize of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the International Prize named after A. Maldybaev, Honored Artists and Cultural Figures of Kyrgyzstan, Distinguished Achievers of Education of the Kyrgyz Republic, Holders of Orders and Medals, and Laureates of International and National Competitions.
The Conservatory has four faculties and 14 departments, attended by students from both the Kyrgyz Republic and abroad. In accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Conservatory provides methodological supervision to secondary specialized music educational institutions in the country. Concert activities are one of the most important areas of the Conservatory's work. The Conservatory's personnel and rehearsal facilities include the Grand Symphony Orchestra, a diploma winner of the A. Piazzolla International Orchestra Competition in Barnaul (Russia), the Orchestra of Folk Instruments, the Akak Komuz Ensemble, and the Brass Orchestra of the Bishkek City Hall. The Chamber Choir, a laureate of the International Competition named after. A. Zhubanov in Aktebe (Kazakhstan), the Violin and Cello Ensemble, the Sault Peanuts jazz group, and the KNK pop group. The conservatory conducts extensive concert and competition work. Concerts are held at the best philharmonic venues and theater stages - the KNK Grand Concert Hall, the A. Maldybaev Kazakh Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, the T. Satylganov Kazakh National Philharmonic, the M. Kurenkeev Kazan State Medical University, and the TsDYS Central Children's Music School. P. Shubina, in the regions of Kyrgyzstan, military units, etc. Concerts were held to mark the most important historical and cultural events in Kyrgyzstan, the World Music Day, the 200th anniversary of the birth of F. Chopin, R. Schumann, F. Liszt, in memory of the luminaries of national culture A. Tuleyev, M. Abdraev, K. Moldobasanov, B. Minzhilkiev, A. Zhanibekov, T. Ermatov, M. Temirbekov, T. Musurmankulov, E. Mademilova, Ch. Imanbaeva, concerts "Bishkek-Moscow-Madrid", "Bishkek-Moscow-Cologne", "Bishkek-Tokyo", as well as solo, symphonic, choral, choreographic programs and opera performances. KNK students and postgraduate students participated in concert tours of the CIS Youth Symphony Orchestra to the capitals of the Commonwealth countries, Paris, and New York.
The Conservatory has a well-developed system of international relations; KNK faculty, postgraduate students, students, and alumni actively participate in international forums, festivals, and competitions.
