The Kyrgyz State Conservatory was established by the Decree of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic dated 23 July 1993. The Conservatory received the highest status of "National" for the first time in the country in 1998. The Conservatory is a powerful school of personnel training, the only professional music university in the country with great creative potential.

The initiator of the establishment and the rector of the Conservatory is a famous composer, People's Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, winner of the State Prize named after Toktogul. Professor M.Begaliev. Outstanding musicians and pedagogues of the KR and young specialists work under his guidance.

The Conservatory has developed a system of musical methodology that organically combines the foundations of folk pedagogy and world traditions of academic education. The Conservatory trains highly qualified personnel in piano, solo academic and traditional singing, concert performer on Kyrgyz folk and symphonic instruments, musical variety artist, choral and opera-symphonic conducting, composition, musicology, ballet director.

For 25 years the university has trained about 3000 highly qualified personnel. More than 1000 students and postgraduates have won the title of laureates of international competitions, more than 100 students are scholarship holders of the Presidential Programme "Prelude" and "Altyn-Shaty". KNC graduates work in all musical ensembles and educational institutions of the country, in the Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after A. Maldybaev, the Kyrgyz National Philharmonic named after A. Maldybaev, the Kyrgyz National Philharmonic named after Toktogul, the Public Television and Ballet Theatre named after A. Maldybaev. The Conservatory's structure includes the rectors of the Kyrgyz National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after A. The structure of the Conservatory includes the rectorate, Academic Council, academic department, dean's offices, chairs, UMO, opera and choral studio, state language centre, international department, library with reading room, phonotheque, recording studio, KNC museum, computer class, sports and recreational facilities, as well as two-year pre-university preparatory department, two-year assistantship-traineeship, correspondence department and faculty of advanced training for teachers of music schools and colleges of KR.

The teaching staff of the Conservatory consists of leading musicians, musicians of the country - professors, associate professors, doctors and candidates of sciences, graduates of leading conservatories of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kiev, Tashkent, Almaty, Bishkek. Among them are People's Artists of the USSR and the Kyrgyz Republic, laureates of the USSR State Prize and the State Prize of the Kyrgyz Republic named after Toktogul, the International Prize named after A. Maldybaev, the International Prize named after A. Maldybaev, the State Prize of the Kyrgyz Republic named after A. Maldybaev, the State Prize of the USSR and the State Prize of the Kyrgyz Republic. The Conservatory has four faculties and 14 departments where students - citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic and foreign countries - study. In accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Conservatory provides methodological supervision of secondary specialised musical educational institutions of the country. Concert activities are one of the most important areas of the Conservatory's work. On the staff and rehearsal base of the Conservatory were created the Big Symphony Orchestra - a diploma winner of the A. Piazzolla International Orchestra Competition in Barnaul (Russia), the Orchestra of Folk Instruments, the Ensemble of Komuzists "Akak" and the Wind Orchestra of the Bishkek City Hall. The Chamber Choir - winner of the A. Zhubanov International Competition in Aktobe (Kazakhstan), the Ensemble of violinists and cellists, the jazz group "Sault Peanuts", and the KNC pop group are well known. The Conservatoire conducts great concert and competition work. Concerts are held at the best philharmonic venues and theatre stages - the Grand Concert Hall of KNC, A. Maldybaev KNATOB, T. Satylganov KNF, M. Kuren-keyev KSMU, P. Shubin Central Children's and Youth Music School, in the regions of Kyrgyzstan, military units and others. With the participation of KNC students and postgraduates, concert tours of the CIS Youth Symphony Orchestra took place in the capitals of Commonwealth countries, Paris and New York.

The Conservatory has a developed system of international relations, the teaching staff, postgraduates, students and graduates of KNC take an active part in international forums, festivals and competitions.

Rector of KNC Muratbek Begaliev is a member of the Council of Rectors of Conservatories of the Commonwealth of Independent States, chairman of the jury of the International Competition-Festival "Shabyt" in Astana, International Competition "Issyk-Kul", International Competition "Jazz. Bishkek. Spring" and the International Performers' Competition in Ankara, jury member of the Khachaturian International Composers' Competition in Yerevan, Chairman of the GAC at the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatoire. Kurmangazy. Creative ties with such international organisations as IFESCCO, UNESCO, TURKSOY, Aga Khan Foundation, Open Society Institute, V. Spivakov International Charitable Foundation and diplomatic missions are deepening.

Internationally renowned musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, Catherine Woodart and Coco York (USA), Dmitry Bashkirov, Andrey Pisarev and Sergey Slovachevsky (Russia), Louis Sclavis and Michael Schweizer (France), Martin Studer and Susanne Hasler (Switzerland), Saida Elemanova (Kazakhstan) and others give masterclasses at KNC.

The Conservatory's research interests include fundamental problems of modern musicology, history and theory of Kyrgyz national and world music culture, topical problems of performance and music pedagogy, problems of musical style, genres and form, music sociology and art management. One of the priorities is the support of young scientists; a youth musicology section has been established. Dozens of works have been published under the auspices of the Conservatoire: monographs, textbooks, manuals, textbooks, textbooks, collections of articles, which are purposefully introduced into the educational process.
