The entrance exam for the Department of Choreography Directing consists of the following sections:

  • Presentation of staging works

  • Colloquium

The presentation of staging works includes:

  • Classical dance

  • Folk dance

  • Contemporary dance

  • Improvisation based on a given musical material

Colloquium

The colloquium assesses the cultural level of the applicants, their aesthetic views, erudition in the field of choreographic art, and knowledge of the main stages of the development of ballet art.


 

DEPARTMENT OF DIRECTING AND CHOREOGRAPHY

The department was opened in 1997 by the People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, Professor K. Mademilova, with the aim of forming and developing a national school of ballet masters-choreographers. At the time of its creation, it was the only such department in Kyrgyzstan.

The first teachers of the department were: People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, laureate of the USSR State Prize, Professor R. Chokoeva; People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic B. Alimbaev; Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic S. Abduzhalilov; People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, Professor R. Urazgildeev; People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic K. Sydykov; Senior Lecturer N. Khasan-Akhunov; Lecturers – E. Dzhumakhmatov, E. Toktobekov.

Over the years, the department has been headed by: People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, Professor K. Mademilova; People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic D. Biiseev; Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic Z. Moldobakirov.

Currently, the department staff includes: Head of Department – Senior Lecturer A. Toktogaziev, Honored Worker of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic Z. Moldobakirov, Senior Lecturer T. Litovskaya, G. Okenova. The department operates based on the programs of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, which are supplemented by the experience accumulated by the entire Kyrgyz ballet school.

In 24 years, the department has graduated 85 students, among them: People’s Artists of the Kyrgyz Republic – 4, Honored Workers of Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic – 4, Honored Artists – 11, Honorary Certificates of the Kyrgyz Republic – 3, Excellence in Education of the Kyrgyz Republic – 2, Excellence in Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic – 2, Laureates of international competitions – 7, Laureates of republican competitions – 8. Graduate ballet masters successfully work in concert and entertainment organizations of Kyrgyzstan, as well as in Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the USA, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and other countries.

A tradition of the department is the annual report concert, the program of which includes original works covering the entire spectrum of studied disciplines. As performers, our young ballet masters invite students of choreographic schools and colleges, as well as ballet artists.

One of the principles of training at the department is creative collaboration. Department students have a unique opportunity to work on their productions together with student composers from the composition department.

Young ballet masters have staged 24 major choreographic works and numerous concert pieces, based on the vocabulary and stylistic features of both modern choreography and classical dance composition, as well as Kyrgyz dance composition.

The department has become a vital link in the development of ballet and dance art in Kyrgyzstan, providing continuity from students of choreographic schools and the conservatory to stage veterans.
