Colloquium
The structure of the colloquium for applicants to the vocal faculty is similar to that for applicants in the specialty “Instrumental Performance.” The content of the questions in the second group, which determines the level of professional preparation of the applicant, should include:

Knowledge of the main repertoire for their voice type

Ability to talk about the works performed at the exam and their authors
-
Knowledge of existing performance traditions and the ability to justify their own interpretation
-
Knowledge of the creative work of outstanding singers (both domestic and foreign)
-
Knowledge of the main methodological literature in their specialty
In addition, the colloquium tests the applicant’s acting ability (imagination, associative and figurative thinking, etc.).
Solfeggio and Elementary Music Theory
The applicant must:

Complete a written assignment in class, which includes:
-
Identifying given characteristic intervals and resolving them in keys with up to two accidentals
-
Constructing intervals (diatonic and chromatic) from a given note and identifying them in the key
-
Constructing chords (triads, including augmented and diminished, d7 with inversions and resolution)
-
Transposing monophonic melodies
-
Determining the key of a small musical excerpt
-
Time allotted for the written assignment: 1 hour 30 minutes.

Sing scales (major, and three types of minor), intervals in the key and from a given note, triads and their inversions
-
Recognize, construct, and sing intervals and chords by ear
-
Sight-sing a diatonic melody in keys with up to 3 accidentals, with simple rhythm
-
Analyze a song or romance (identify key, meter, rhythmic features, accidentals, ornamentation, as well as musical terms and dynamic markings found in the score)
Entrance Requirements for Music-Theoretical Disciplines
Solfeggio (oral):

Singing scales in keys with 1 to 5 accidentals: two types of major and three types of minor, all types of triads (with inversions and resolutions), as well as harmonic progressions including up to six chords

Sight-singing a monophonic melody in major or minor, with chromatic (altered) steps, possible modulations to related keys, in simple meters, with various rhythmic difficulties
Harmony (oral):
-
Performing tasks at the piano: playing modulations to closely related keys in the form of a period (an initial harmonic progression may be provided)

Playing tonal and modulating sequences (2–4 chords)
-
Harmonic analysis at sight of works in various styles. The harmonic language should not exceed the following level of complexity: L. Beethoven — sonatas; P.I. Tchaikovsky — “The Seasons”; M.I. Glinka, P.I. Tchaikovsky, S.V. Rachmaninoff

Among those who stood at the origins of the Solo Singing Department of the Conservatory are such performers as S.K. Kiizbaeva, B.A. Minzhilkiev, V.I. Mukovnikov, K.S. Sartpaeva, E.T. Nurmanbetova, L.A. Georgieva, T.S. Seytaliev. The first head of the department was People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic, Professor M.B. Temirbekov. At different times, the department was headed by N. Alisherova, T. Zhakshylykov, Z. Sarygulova. Currently, the department is headed by graduate of the Conservatory, S.Zh. Isin.
Over the 27-year period, the staff of the department has been replenished with new personnel; young teachers find understanding and support from wise mentors, who help them master the specifics and features of professional skill necessary for successfully solving the department’s tasks.
All teachers conduct classes professionally, constantly improve their pedagogical skills, and regularly undergo advanced training. Relying on accumulated experience, the staff of the department carries out teaching, research, and educational activities in accordance with the norms and traditions of the Conservatory.
Graduates of the department are in demand and successfully work in all areas of culture: music institutions, educational organizations, concert organizations, radio and television, philharmonics, and theaters. Students receive specialized training. The cycle of individual lessons gives them the professional knowledge and skills necessary for successful independent work on current problems of music education and the musical culture of the past and present.
Thanks to their studies at the Conservatory, our students demonstrate their mastery in both teaching and performance, their ability to reveal the artistic image of the works they perform, their skill in teaching beginning musicians, and their ability to foster a love for beauty, music, and art.
